A campaign aimed at reducing the risk of motorcycle-related deaths and serious injuries on the roads is now underway across North Wales.
The annual Operation Darwen campaign runs from early Spring through until the autumn, covering a period that sees the highest number of motorcyclists killed or seriously injured. The campaign is aimed at promoting rider safety and will see high visibility patrols being carried out along key routes which have been identified as risk areas.
Over the coming months, officers from the Roads Crime Unit will be on active patrol across the region and will also be engaging with riders at popular biker meeting spots.

As a motorcyclist, what you wear is your only protection against injury if you’re involved in a collision.
It’s so important to always be kitted out correctly with the right clothing and equipment, whatever bike you ride, even if you’re just heading to the shop.
Whether you're commuting or out for a weekend ride; on a moped or a supersport bike; a short slide on tarmac will shred clothes and then take skin down to the bone in no time. Quality kit really can save your skin.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has confirmed that over the last year, the Council has been working closely with Welsh Government and Transport for Wales (TfW) to review the Llanharan Link Road, which was paused under the Welsh Government’s Roads Review.
Reconsideration of the proposed scheme, working in alignment to the new Welsh Government requirements for sustainability, has allowed the Council to work closely with Transport for Wales to re-design the scheme.
The re-designed scheme will deliver a new link road to help remove HGVs and heavy traffic through the village of Llanharan. However the new scheme will have public transport and active travel – with over 4km of active travel links - embedded in its principles.

Today’s announcement builds on steps the Welsh Government has already taken to improve accessibility in rural communities, such as the response led Fflecsi bus service.

Pembrokeshire County Council is finalising plans to bid for Welsh Government funding to repair and reopen the recently closed Wiseman’s Bridge to Saundersfoot path.
The popular route, which is also a section of the National Cycle Route 4, had to be closed on safety grounds following landslips in November, December and most recently February.
Pembrokeshire County Council understands the concern among residents about local access and that a plan is needed to address the issue with landslides attributed to heavy rainfall over recent months.

Policing’s national operation to tackle drink and drug driving has seen consistently high results for the second year running, with more than 6,600 motorists arrested for offences.
Many police forces undertake a proactive operation around Christmas each year to increase breath testing and targeted vehicle stops for drivers suspected of being under the influence. Christmas 2022 saw the first national operation, called Op Limit, to coordinate this activity across the country – bringing together all police forces in a concerted effort to remove drink and drug drivers from our roads.
2023 saw all police forces take part in the operation, engaging in education and awareness events, communications around the risks of driving under the influence, targeted vehicle stops in hot spot areas and intelligence led patrols.

In September 2023, we introduced a 20mph default speed limit in built-up areas of Wales.
The aim was clear: reduce the speed of vehicles and reduce deaths and severe injuries on our roads. Lower speeds will, in turn, create safer, better communities to live, work and lead our lives.
