Ken Skates MS, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales: “I believe that everyone, regardless of age, ability or location, should have access to safe, reliable and inclusive transport. That includes walking, wheeling and cycling, especially for households in Wales that don't have access to a car.
"For many, the ability to walk, wheel or cycle isn’t a lifestyle choice - it’s essential. Alongside public transport, walking, wheeling and cycling supports people get to work or school, see friends and family, pop to the shops and access essential public services.

North Wales Police is supporting Op Spotlight, a national campaign coordinated by the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC). The two-week campaign (22nd September - 5th October) sees officers carrying out a combination of enforcement activity as well as engagement and educational work aimed at raising awareness of the most common and dangerous road behaviours - the Fatal 5.
Police forces across the country are placing a particular focus on young drivers and riders aged 17-25 who are statistically more at risk of being involved in serious collisions.
Driving whilst under the influence of drink and/or drugs, speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and careless/dangerous driving make up the #Fatal5 and North Wales Police have a robust strategy around enforcing these offences.

A week promoting the importance of good eye health and the need for regular eye tests for all, runs from the 22nd to the 28th September 2025.
Whatever your age, good eyesight is vital when using the road. Drivers and motorcyclists must be able to read a vehicle registration plate from a distance of 20 metres (or 20.5 metres if the vehicle was registered before September 2001) wearing glasses or contact lenses if required.
If you are finding it difficult to read road signs, particularly those with text, it could indicate that your eyesight has deteriorated and you may require corrective lenses. If you are finding it harder to see clearly in the dark, this may also mean you need to wear glasses or contact lenses.

Officers from the Roads Crime Unit detected almost 90 offences last month as part of Operation Tramline, a roads policing operation using an unmarked heavy goods vehicle.
Across several days in August, North Wales Police had exclusive access to a specialist HGV tractor unit provided by National Highways, which was used to carry out patrols across the strategic road network. The elevated position of the HGV cab allowed trained officers to easily see what drivers were doing and the offences were captured and recorded on camera.
Once suspected offences were identified, officers from the Roads Crime Unit intercepted the identified vehicles and stopped drivers at the roadside or they were brought into a checkpoint to be spoken to.

Neath Port Talbot Council is inviting residents to give their views on proposals to enhance walking, wheeling, and cycling (Active Travel) routes across towns and villages in the county borough.
Through the enhancement of existing infrastructure and the development of new routes, the council aims to make Active Travel the preferred mode of transport for local journeys. This initiative supports improved air quality, healthier lifestyles, and the overall attractiveness of communities as places to live and work.
The Active Travel Network Map outlines the routes the council intends to prioritise for future improvements. It is designed to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer and more accessible for all, particularly for those who do not currently travel actively and those who use mobility aids.
