Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council has undertaken a review of road traffic conditions along the A4059 between Abercynon Roundabout and Cwmbach, following an increase in high severity road traffic collisions in recent years.
In response, Council officers are currently in the process of developing proposals to promote and improve road safety at key sections of this main road through the Cynon Valley.
The A4059 between Abercynon and Cwmbach has two National Speed Limit sections (south and north of Mountain Ash). Being a single carriageway road, it carries a 60mph speed limit for cars and motorcycles, and a 50mph limit for heavier vehicles. According to the latest available road collision and casualty data relating to the past five years, there have been several severe and sadly fatal collisions along this route – a high proportion of which saw speed as a contributing factor.

The Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates has visited Wrexham to hear about the progress the local authority has made as they launch their consultation of 20mph roads that may change back to 30mph.
Wrexham Council has assessed the 20mph roads suggested for review to see which are eligible to be considered for change and will now launch a public consultation as part of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process. The consultation begins today (Friday, December 13).
The Cabinet Secretary met Councillor Bithell, Lead Member for Housing and Climate Change on Chester Road, one of the 52 roads in Wrexham which are proposed to change, to talk about the process of reviewing the 20mph speed limits on roads in the area and see the section of the road that is proposed to go back to 30mph.

As we enter the festive season and this time of celebration, Road Safety Wales is highlighting the importance of making the right choices to ensure that everyone arrives home safely.
Alcohol gives a false sense of confidence, judgement will be affected, reflex responses are decreased, and reaction times are slower.

“I am committed to fundamentally changing the way bus services are delivered in Wales” – Transport Secretary, Ken Skates
Plans to radically change the way local bus services are delivered across Wales, putting people and communities first, are progressing well.
The new franchising model will replace the current de-regulated system by enabling public, private or third sector operators to bid for packages of local bus services. It will also lift the restrictions on existing publicly owned bus companies, putting them on an equal footing with other bus operators.

Thousands of potholes and hundreds of road repairs and upgrades are helping keep city traffic on the move in Swansea, backed by £8.1m of council funding.
Since April more than 4,200 potholes have been fixed alongside a number of major road resurfacing projects in communities across the city.
In October alone Swansea’s team filled in 445 potholes, more than 95% of them within 48 hours of being reported by members of the public.

A popular scheme allowing designated drivers to receive free draught soft drinks has been relaunched in South Wales.
The initiative, which will run over the Christmas period and until the start of January, has already seen more than 80 premises sign up.
A designated driver is someone who abstains from drinking alcohol to act as the responsible driver and the aim of the scheme is to promote responsible drinking with road safety in mind.
