More pupils are walking, scooting and cycling to a school in Cwmbran since they introduced an active travel schools plan.
Llantarnam Primary School was the first in Torfaen to adopt the new generation of active travel school plan in July 2022, aimed at increasing the number of pupils who regularly travel actively to school.
Since then, Torfaen County Borough Council’s active travel team has worked with the school to provide scooter storage, bike training, carry out surveys, create new active travel routes, and install a zebra crossing and additional entrances into the school.

South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit teamed up with First Cymru for Operation Routemaster, which aims to change driver behaviour and keep motorists safe.
Officers were on a bus recording passing motorists to try and catch those who were committing ‘fatal five’ traffic offences, which include using their mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt, driving carelessly, speeding or drink/drug driving.
Starting their partnership with First Cymru on 11 September, South Wales Police, in just one day, found 26 motorists committing one of the fatal five. This resulted in them being stopped by roads police officers in marked police vehicles, who gave advice, traffic offence reports, Report for Summons, fixed penalties, PG6 Prohibitions and vehicle seized for no insurance.

A week promoting the importance of good eye health and the need for regular eye tests for all, runs from the 23rd to the 29th September 2024.
Whatever your age, good eyesight is vital when using the road. Drivers and motorcyclists must be able to read a vehicle registration plate from a distance of 20 metres (or 20.5 metres if the vehicle was registered before September 2001) wearing glasses or contact lenses if required.
If you are finding it difficult to read road signs, particularly those with text, it could indicate that your eyesight has deteriorated and you may require corrective lenses. If you are finding it harder to see clearly in the dark, this may also mean you need to wear glasses or contact lenses.

Ahead of the anniversary of the introduction of the 20mph default speed limit in Wales, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, Ken Skates, set out the next steps.
Earlier this year, the Cabinet Secretary announced a three-phase plan on 20mph, including a National Listening Programme over the summer, which encouraged people to get involved and have their say. Welsh Government published revised guidance for highway authorities in July.
The first two phases of the plan are complete. Local authorities are now in the process of reviewing feedback from people, business, and communities across Wales to ensure 20mph is targeted on the right roads.

Swansea Council is receiving reports from people saying they are being contacted by text claiming they have received a Penalty Charge Notice from the council and asking for banking details.
Please be aware that this is a scam and if you get such a message, you should not respond to it.
Swansea Council never texts people about fixed penalty notices. Fixed penalty notices issued by the council are either fixed to a vehicle or sent by letter to the registered keeper's home.

Over 800 views submitted to help shape the future of transport in South West Wales.
Residents and businesses throughout Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire and Swansea were invited to give feedback as part of a consultation on a case for change for a regional transport plan.
Run by the Corporate Joint Committee (CJC) for South West Wales, questions in the consultation sought people's views on the region's bus and rail network as well as its walking and cycling routes.

Visitors from across South Wales descended on Cardiff Bay’s Roald Dahl Plass for the annual Emergency Services 999 Day, on Saturday 7th September.
Hosted by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS), the event marks the biggest day in the Service’s calendar, providing an opportunity for blue light partners to come together and show the public what they are capable of.
South Wales Police, Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WAST), St John’s Ambulance, HM Coastguard and RNLI colleagues provided a plethora of vehicles and equipment, supplementing the impressive array of SWFRS capabilities on display.

When a patient faces a serious emergency, every second counts for them and a simple helping hand from a Community First Responder can make a vital difference to their lives.
Community First Responders in Wales are volunteers who donate their spare time to attend appropriate 999 calls and provide first hand emergency care to people in their own community.
When a 999 call is made, Community First Responders are alerted by the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust's three Clinical Control Centres and are sent to specific types of calls in their local areas where they live and work, often attending the scene of an emergency within a few minutes providing essential care until a clinician reaches the scene.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s growing fleet of electric and low-emission vehicles now numbers 50 as it continues its drive towards a cleaner, greener future.
As well as light vans and pool cars, the green vehicles now include a 16-tonne road sweeper and a 12-tonne recycling vehicle with the fleet serving a wide variety of departments from waste and recycling to social services.
And the council now has a solar powered charging park at its offices in The Quays on the Baglan Energy Park with public EV charging facilities also available at the Neath Multi-Storey Car Park and Afan Forest Park. The charging park at the Quays is powered by a large solar canopy.

Road Safety Wales is reminding drivers of their responsibilities when encountering School Crossing Patrols.
School Crossing Patrol officers are an integral part of the community in many areas of Wales; they have often assisted the children, and even the grandchildren, of those that attended the same school many years ago. They are that friendly face that always greets us when we arrive at school and the one we say goodbye to as we make our way home.
They are dedicated and much-appreciated members of the school and wider community who turn out, despite the weather, to keep us all safe when crossing the road.
