Following the success of the Newport enforcement day, 'Surround The Town' returns today in Cwmbran. Gwent Police will again be working with GoSafe, Torfaen County Borough Council and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, to address poor driving and local crime priorities and to highlight local services.
'Surround the Town' will involve multiple teams across the town to help ensure that those living in, working or visiting Cwmbran can do so in a safe environment. The operation will target motoring offences and raise awareness of collision risk factors. Parking enforcement, tackling anti-social behaviour, drug offences and organised crime groups will also be a part of the enforcement initiative.

As part of its commitment to tackling climate change, Gwynedd Council has launched its intention to introduce electric vehicles to its fleet over the coming years.
The council has underlined its commitment to adding more green vehicles and to reduce the use of petrol and diesel vehicles from its fleet in the years ahead.
Over the past decade, the council has reduced its carbon emissions by almost 40%, and this latest commitment to introducing electric vehicles to the authority’s fleet is the latest in Gwynedd’s efforts to improve on this figure.

Lee Waters, Deputy Economy and Transport Minister, has announced how £14.5 million of active travel investment will be spent across Wales.
Active travel involves making journeys by physically active means. The funding will improve and create active travel routes and facilities in Wales, as part of efforts to encourage more people to walk and cycle.
The Deputy Minister had previously called on local authorities to be radical and ambitious in their work to improve active travel. He called for proposals to go further in creating infrastructure enabling people to choose walking and cycling as the most natural way to undertake shorter journeys.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has begun its winter preparations, with a fleet of new vehicles ready to grit over 250 miles of primary routes.
The council has added 8 new vehicles to its fleet for the coming winter, featuring the latest health and safety design features along with up to date fuel efficient engines. These new vehicles will see the council invest an additional £1.4million into its winter maintenance service over the next four year period. This investment includes new digital mapping and route navigation technology to increase the efficiency of the council’s winter maintenance service.
With this new technology, routes are uploaded into the vehicle and the in-cab route navigation system guides the driver around the route, enabling drivers to follow any route with no prior knowledge. Pre-determined levels of salt are deposited and spread as it progresses around the route, thanks to its automated salting technology.

Taking part in a mock school bus evacuation, crawling through a smoke-filled house and learning lifesaving first aid Year 6 children have been experiencing all this and more in Crucial Crew.
The event includes a range of workshops run by the emergency services and other organisations, all designed to boost safety awareness among 10 and 11 year olds in Pembrokeshire.
More than 1,400 children from 42 local primary schools participated in the event, which took place over two weeks at Withybush Showground.

Kerbcraft is a road safety scheme which teaches children how to be safer pedestrians. Funding within Torfaen is provided by the Welsh Government and Torfaen County Borough Council, and the council is currently asking drivers to assist with the training.
During the 10-12 week course, road safety officers and volunteers take primary school children out to real roads and show them how the right decision-making and behaviour can really help them to keep safe. The children learn skills including how to choose safe places and routes to cross the road, crossing safely near parked cars and crossing safely near junctions.
Lesley Rosser, Child Pedestrian Training Co-ordinator for Torfaen, said, “We train more than 1,000 children per year across the borough, and in late September we started training 17 primary schools.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has set aside funding to pilot the first fully electric bike share scheme in Wales.
Following the success of the nextbike cycle hire scheme in Cardiff, which has recorded more than 548,000 rentals since its launch in 2018, the Vale of Glamorgan Council has received requests for a similar system.
In response to these requests, as well as in recognition of the potential benefits to the community and environment, nextbike, the UK’s leading bike share scheme provider, will implement the project.

A programme of activities is taking place across Carmarthenshire during Road Safety Week, coordinated by Brake the road safety charity.
The aim of the week – which is being held between November 18 and 24 - is to raise awareness of road safety issues, and in particular what we can all do to make our roads safer and reduce the number of accidents.
The council’s road safety team has organised various events from walk to school initiatives, Kerbcraft - child pedestrian training, and training on what to do if you are first on the scene to a motorcycle collision.

A clampdown on anti-social parking outside schools will take place in Denbighshire, council officers will be carrying out spot checks at schools and informing motorists about road safety.
Police Community Support Officers and Civil Enforcement Officers will also be attending schools to deter parents from parking on zig zags and double yellow lines.
Emlyn Jones, Denbighshire County Council’s Head of Planning and Public Protection Services, said, “Anti-social driving and parking around the county’s schools puts children’s lives in danger. We are urging parents to observe the Highway Code and facilitate the safeguarding of our children. Parking on pavements and zig zags forces children to walk on roads which are busy and congested during these hours.

As officers prepare for the forthcoming Christmas Anti Drink and Drug Driving campaign, motorists in North Wales are being reminded that the Police will continue to crack down on those caught driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, ahead of the festive period.
Recent arrests have taken place in Rhyl, Trawsfynydd, Shotton, Caernarfon, Porthmadog, Bodelwyddan, Llandudno, Caerwys, Broughton, Wrexham and Bangor.
Temporary Sergeant Darren Newby of the Roads Policing Unit said, “Despite our repeated warnings regarding the dangers of drink and drug driving, people are still choosing to risk their own lives and the lives of other road users by taking to the roads whilst under the influence.
