North Wales Police Community Speed Watch Scheme

North Wales Police is currently recruiting Community Speed Watch volunteers force-wide. The role involves working with North Wales Police with the aim to:

  • Reduce the risk of death, injury and collisions
  • Improve the safety and quality of life for local communities
  • Increase public awareness of speeding and other traffic offences

Monitoring locations are chosen by the volunteers who are then trained in the use of hand-held speed monitoring devices to record the speed of motorists driving through their village or parish.

Operating at the roadside in 20, 30 or 40mph zones, volunteers monitor the speeds of passing vehicles using portable or tripod mounted speed indicator devices. Some devices signal their speed to the drivers, others don’t. The volunteers record the speed and details of vehicles travelling above the speed thresholds. The registered keepers of vehicles observed exceeding these limits are then sent warning letters by the Police.

Winter Road Maintenance In Caerphilly

It’s that time of year again, winter is in the air and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s gritters continue to help to keep residents on the move.

The Council has 13 gritters available to use, all of which can be fitted with a snow plough if needed and around 9,000 tonnes of rock salt in stock ready to treat roads during the frosty nights.

All main salt vehicles are fitted with the latest technology in salt distribution, including trackers and salt monitoring systems, which allow the Council to programme the vehicles accurately, depending on the route and weather conditions. This results in a more effective and efficient use of the salt supplies, reducing costs and the environmental impact that the salt has on the County Borough.

Motorcyclists: Have you got a CRASH Card?

Road Safety Wales is encouraging all motorcyclists to take advantage of a free scheme which could be lifesaving in the event of a collision.

Hopefully you’ll never need to use a CRASH Card, but if the worst happens a medical professional will be able to see the green dot on the right hand corner of your visor/helmet and can look for the card inside the helmet lining.

The details that you write on the card could provide vital information for attending ambulance crews, saving valuable time and helping treatment, especially if you’re unconscious or unable to communicate.
