The launch of Cardiff Council’s School Active Travel Plan programme, took place recently at Howardian Primary School in Pen-y-lan.
Through the programme the council provides advice and support to all schools, enabling them develop an Active Travel Plan specific to their school. It provides officer support and online guidance and resources to help change travel behaviour by assisting schools to identify why parents are using cars.
The scheme will help schools to promote walking, cycling and scooting as a way of travelling to and from school, with the benefits of:

The Welsh Government has recently issued a consultation on its revised Active Travel guidance, which combines:
- Active Travel delivery and planning guidance
- Active Travel design guidance
The revised guidance supports the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 and intends to:
- improve collaboration between planners and designers
- take account of changes in regulations
- reflect current best practice

Residents of Neath Port Talbot who would like to become more active, cycle with friends or family, or try commuting to work by bike, can now sign up for FREE adult cycle training.
Taking place in February and March, the training will be delivered by qualified instructors, with hour-long sessions starting and ending at the Council’s offices, the Quays, Baglan SA11 2GG.
