Merthyr Tydfil residents who want to take up cycling but aren’t confident on the road are being taught cycling skills in a free eight-week course.
The success of a pilot ‘Wobble to Road’ project, in which seven people progressed from cycling around a school athletics track to a 20-mile road ride, has resulted in joint organisers Active Merthyr and Merthyr Triathlon Club planning a second course this September.
Active Merthyr Community Sports Co-ordinator Jennifer Evans said, “This course is aimed at anyone wanting to get back in the saddle and develop confidence in cycling in a safe manner. We also want to get more people cycling in Merthyr and using our great network of trails and the roads around them.

On 10 July at the annual Road Safety Wales Conference, Dawn Davies was presented with a Road Safety Wales Award for her long standing service and commitment as the School Crossing Patrol Officer at St Padarn's Catholic Primary School for over 13 years.
Dawn Davies was nominated for this award by her colleagues in the Road Safety team and Dawn has now stepped down from her position to begin a new chapter in her life.
Kayleigh Tonkins, a member of the Road Safety team said, “A big thank you to Dawn from all her colleagues in the Road Safety team; she has been a pleasure to work with and will be sorely missed by the pupils old and new. This award is just a small recognition to the hard work and dedication she has shown to the safety of the pupils at St Padarn's come rain or shine.”

Swansea Council has secured funding via the Welsh Government Local Transport Network Fund to introduce major traffic improvements aimed at easing congestion at a traffic bottleneck in Swansea
Traffic engineers in the Council have estimated that waiting times at the junction where Vivian Road, Broadway, Cockett Road and Townhill Road connect, could quadruple in future years if changes are not implemented.
The scheme will see traffic signals replace two mini roundabouts which are currently in place. Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure Management, said, "At peak times, this junction becomes very busy and congested.

More than £3.6m worth of transport and active travel improvements will be made in Bridgend County Borough over the next year thanks to grants from the Welsh Government.
A total of £3,657,980 has been awarded to Bridgend County Borough Council to fund construction work of new safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists, new active travel routes and accessibility improvements at a number of bus stops. The funding also allows the council to provide road safety and cycle training for schoolchildren, as well as Pass Plus Cymru courses for new drivers.
The active travel improvements being planned by the council include new shared pedestrian and cycling routes linking Brackla to Bridgend town centre, between Pencoed and the Pencoed Technology Park, a route connecting Coychurch with both the Waterton Industrial Estate and Retail Park, and improvements around Coity. Work on all of these schemes is due to start in October and be completed by spring 2020.

Llanelli, Burry Port, Ammanford, Carmarthen, Gwendraeth Valley and Llandeilo are the latest locations in Carmarthenshire to benefit from electric vehicle charging points.
Carmarthenshire County Council secured funding for the plug-in chargers via successful bids to Welsh Government’s Local Transport Fund and On-street Residential Charge Point Scheme, as part of the council’s ongoing efforts to support sustainability and to become a net zero carbon local authority by 2030.
The proposed 7kw-22kw (fast chargers) will charge a compatible electric vehicle in 3-5 hours and all current charge point locations can be found on the Carmarthenshire County Council website

Speed cameras and enforcement vans have become a common sight on the roads and communities of Wales over the last few decades.
GoSafe place cameras where people have been killed or injured, where excessive speeds have been recorded, for special operations such as enforcing not wearing a seatbelt or at sites of community concern.

Research has shown that operating a handheld or hands-free mobile phone when driving or riding a vehicle is a significant distraction and substantially increases the risk of the driver being involved in a collision.
You are four times more likely to be involved in a collision, injuring or killing yourself and/or other people, if you use a mobile phone while driving - whatever you’re doing with it.
Many vehicles now have Bluetooth or handsfree kits installed, but using a handsfree phone does not significantly reduce the risk because the issues are caused mainly by the mental distraction and divided attention of having a phone conversation at the same time as you're driving.

Cardiff’s much anticipated bus interchange has been confirmed as part of a deal between the Welsh Government, Legal & General and Rightacres Property.
The bus interchange, to be operated by Transport for Wales, will have bays for 14 buses and coaches on the north side of Cardiff Central railway station, and there are plans for future developments to the south, which will see the creation of an additional 4 bays within the Cardiff Central station complex.
As part of the development, on street bus stands for local services which do not terminate at Cardiff Central, and which would otherwise have their journey times extended by entering the station, will also be upgraded so that they have the same look and feel as the bus station, for example by including the bus station’s information services, wayfinding and design.
