Public notices have been published as part of plans to relocate the pedestrian crossing at A4059 (Ynys) Roundabout in Aberdare – to improve links between the town centre, school and leisure centre, and improve A4059 traffic flow.
There are currently two crossing points at the Ynys Roundabout – a toucan crossing and a steep footbridge over the road. These enable pedestrians to move between Duke Street and the Sobell school and leisure site, and in the direction of Aberdare Railway Station, Robertstown and Abernant.
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s proposal is to remove both crossings, including the traffic lights at the roundabout, and replace them with a new Active Travel bridge over Afon Cynon and a new crossing on the A4059. The bridge will be located around 80-metres southwards, between the rear of Sobell Leisure Centre and the rear of Aberdare Bus Station.

New roadside posters to educate drivers on how to pass horses safely on the road have been installed at 10 ‘hotspot’ locations across Carmarthenshire.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s road safety team has joined forces with the British Horse Society (BHS) to launch the ‘pass wide and slow’ campaign.
Horses and their riders can be vulnerable on the road; and a collision involving a horse and a vehicle can have life threatening consequences for the horse, the rider as well as the occupants of the vehicle.

The Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Lee Waters has announced a freeze on new road building projects, whilst a review of highway schemes across Wales is carried out.
The review was announced in an oral statement to the Senedd on 22 June 2021.
The Welsh Government’s recently published Programme for Government shows how they will act decisively to tackle the climate emergency.

Today, 21st June 2021, Wales By Bike is reminding everybody that it's national 'Ride to Work Day' led by the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG).
The campaign message is that motorcycles can be part of the solution to current transport problems - not part of the problem.
For many, cycling and walking can be the natural choice for local everyday journeys, but where active travel isn’t feasible, using powered-two-wheelers for commuting and local trips reduces congestion, pollution, CO2 emissions and parking issues.

Blaenau Gwent Council Executive Committee has agreed to over £900,000 worth of road improvements for 2021-22.
The focus of the work will be on high priority works to the Council's road network and improving residential and unclassified roads. The highest priority residential roads in each of the 16 wards, Blaenant Industrial Estate Road plus A and B roads and highway safety work will be targeted with a budget of £912,000.
As well as the above, plans also include a number of specific schemes using Welsh Government funding of £2.158 million. The Local Transport and Resilience Fund of £1,675,000 will be used for 3 schemes:

The First Minister will today set out ambitious plans for a stronger, greener and fairer Wales as he launches the Programme for Government.
The 5-year plan shows how the new Welsh Government will deliver on the promises made to voters during the Senedd 2021 election and how it will tackle the big challenges we face in Wales.
Climate change and the environment will be at the heart of the new government – a new “super-Ministry” has been created, bringing together the big policy areas to help Wales reach its legally binding target of reaching Net Zero by 2050.

More than 2,000 primary school pupils in Swansea are to receive invaluable safety advice directly from those who work on the frontline.
Fifty seven schools from Swansea have signed up to take part in Crucial Crew which is run by the council's Community Safety team.
It will see Year 6 pupils talk directly to representatives from a wide range of services including Road Safety, Community Safety, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, RNLI, Food Standards Agency, Network Rail and Western Power.

The team responsible for making Caerphilly county borough a cleaner, safer and greener place to live has been shortlisted for a prestigious performance award.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Highways team has been shortlisted for an award for the Best Performers in the Roads, Highways and Winter Maintenance category at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Performance Network Awards 2021.
The team won an award for the Most Improved Performers in the APSE Performance Network Awards 2019.
The prestigious APSE Performance Network Awards are a high-profile occasion where both the best performing local authorities and the most improved are awarded for their achievements. There are dedicated awards for each service area and finalists are selected based on those local authorities who have participated in performance networks.
APSE is a not for profit unincorporated association working with over 300 councils throughout the UK. Promoting excellence in public services, APSE is the foremost specialist in local authority frontline services, hosting a network for frontline service providers.
