Success at the British Firefighter Challenge

Congratulations go to the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue team who took part in the British Firefighter Challenge earlier this month at Moreton-in-Marsh.

The British Firefighter Challenge is an annual sporting event which pushes firefighters to their limits, provides a day of entertainment for spectators, and raises funds for the Firefighters Charity.

MAWWFRS came 3rd overall and Watch Manager Dom Norcross was presented with the silver medal for his age group category

Consultation on Cardiff’s New Bus Strategy

A new strategy, which aims to double the number of people who use buses in Cardiff, reduce congestion and improve air quality, is open for public consultation.

The eight-week consultation seeks views on Cardiff Council's nine-point strategy to improve bus services in the city for both residents and commuters, including:

  • Introducing cheaper fares;
  • Working with Transport for Wales (TfW) to develop an integrated ticketing system which works with the Metro;
  • Getting more low-emission buses on the road;
  • Building infrastructure which will make bus travel easier and quicker; and
  • Creating a better customer service.

Residents Agree Plans to Extend Average Speed Cameras

Residents in parts of Merthyr Vale, Plymouth and Treharris Wards have agreed with proposals to extend the planned average speed cameras along the A4054 (Cardiff Road).

The public consultation exercise, which took place August to September 2021, prompted over 1200 responses from residents, road users and members of the wider public, with over 63% of people agreeing with the installation of the cameras.

The consultation was carried out after speed surveys identified ‘excessive speeding on a continuous basis’ along the road, meaning action was urgently needed to improve road safety.  Several options were considered, and average speed cameras were deemed the most effective solution to reduce speeding.
