Gwent Police has launched a proactive initiative to highlight the consequences and deter people from organising and attending illegal car meets and street racing.
Operation Wheeler, led by officers from the Roads Policing and Specialist Operations (RPSO) team, is tackling the anti-social and dangerous use of vehicles across Gwent and has already seen multiple arrests and convictions for those taking part in these meets.
382 illegal car meets were reported to Gwent Police between January 2020 and January 2025, with 144 reports being made last year. Car meets and street racing can have fatal consequences for those involved and the illegal and dangerous behaviour associated can have a ripple effect on the wider community.

Carmarthenshire County Council has announced motorcycling course dates for 2025-26.
Dragon Rider is a motorcycle training course supported by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Enhanced Rider Scheme. The initial session is delivered via Microsoft Teams, which is then followed with the practical element which will be road based.

North Wales Police joined forces with Cheshire Constabulary and partners for an operation targeting criminality across the two areas.
On Thursday, 24 April, officers from specialist teams targeted a variety of crime types including serious and organised crime and road traffic offences across the border between the two counties.
Over the course of the day, a significant number of vehicles were stopped across both areas.

A new 3D flyover video has been produced by Ceredigion County Council to show how proposals for the Waunfawr to IBERS Active Travel Link scheme will connect the communities of Penrhyn-coch and Bow Street via Comins Coch.
The scheme will provide a ‘Campus to Campus’ link for Aberystwyth University staff and students between Penglais Campus and the new AIEC campus at Plas Gogerddan.
The video also shows further Future Route proposals currently under development which are planned to connect with Existing Routes linking Aberystwyth Town Centre with nearby communities. This provides an overview of the wider walking and cycling network and our vision to help connect people with services, places of education and employment in Aberystwyth.

Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council has secured more than £8.5 million funding for key transportation schemes within several Welsh Government grant programmes in 2025/26.
This includes important funding for active travel, resilient roads, road safety, improving pedestrian facilities near schools, and unadopted roads.
Key specific allocations include the delivery of Phase Five of the Rhondda Fach Active Travel Route, developing new walking and cycling provisions between Talbot Green and Llanharan as well as Treorchy and Treherbert, and development of a new Safe Routes in Communities scheme for Cwmparc.

The road safety team at Pembrokeshire County Council is offering Biker Down! Cymru and Dragon Rider Cymru courses this financial year, assisted by a road safety grant from the Welsh Government.
Biker Down! Cymru is a free 3-hour course for motorcyclists wishing to enhance their knowledge and broaden their experience in dealing with incidents or collisions that may require first aid at the roadside.
The course will give participants a better understanding of what to do if they come across a road traffic collision and how to manage it safely.

Officers from the Roads Crime Unit at Gwent Police are reminding motorists to regularly check the condition of their tyres after they’ve seen an increase in the number of motorists being stopped with poor and defective tyres.
In recent weeks several tickets have been issued to drivers whose vehicles were found to have dangerously defective tyres.
PC Lauren Hares of the Roads Crime Unit said: “Making sure your tyres meet the required standards isn’t just a legal requirement, it’s also key to ensuring your safety on the road. As the Easter break approaches and before many hit the roads to go on holiday or visit loved ones, it is important to remember to check the condition of your tyres.

A shared commitment to motorcyclists’ safety At this time of year, we are likely to see a lot more motorcyclists enjoying the freedom of riding on the wonderful scenic roads Wales has to offer.
With that freedom comes a responsibility on bikers to put safety first and always ride in accordance with the law and appropriate to the traffic conditions.
In Wales, a person using a motorcycle is 58 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than they are when travelling by car. Motorists sharing the road responsibly can help improve this concerning situation.

Neath Port Talbot Council has announced a number of motorcycle courses for 2025/26, which are subsidised by the Welsh Government.
Dragon Rider Cymru is a motorcycle rider training course supported by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Enhanced Rider Scheme.
Neath Port Talbot's road safety team has worked to develop this course of advanced rider skills which is delivered by experienced and qualified motorcycle instructors who are accredited by the DVSA Register of Post-Test Motorcycle Instructors under the Enhanced Rider Scheme.
