Caerphilly cash boost approved for extra resurfacing schemes
Twenty-five additional highway resurfacing schemes will now go ahead after Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet approved a £2.6 million funding boost.Earlier this year, Welsh Government announced an additional £50million of funding for councils across Wales. Caerphilly received an allocation of £2.647m and Cabinet have agreed to invest the money in improving the highway network, through resurfacing and increased reactive maintenance.£2.2m will be used for 25 additional resurfacing schemes and £447k will be targeted at reactive maintenance to tackle potholes and other repairs. Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly Council said, “We want to plough this additional funding into urgently improving the highway network, because we know that residents are concerned about the condition of some local roads. We are listening to feedback from the community and delivering positive change. This is something that we, as a Cabinet, are committed to doing across all parts of the Caerphilly County Borough.”This new £2.6million funding boost is in addition to the £4million which has already been allocated for resurfacing in the council’s 2026/27 budget. The £4million is made up of £1.6million capital and revenue investment and £2.4million of WG Local Government Borrowing Initiative (LGBI)./>Details of the report and the locations of the 25 resurfacing schemes can be found here.
